On July 19, CrowdStrike experienced a significant outage, affecting its cloud-based cybersecurity services. The disruption was caused by an error in a software update which resulted in crashes of machines running Microsoft Windows operating systems and prevented them from booting up.

The effects of the outage were far-reaching. Thousands of canceled flights, postponed procedures at hospitals, TV broadcasts brought to a halt, and inability to access online banking were some of the effects of the outage. Different industries were able to get back up and running faster than others, but the outage highlighted their reliance on IT for their operations.

The implications of the CrowdStrike outage extend beyond the immediate service disruption. It raised concerns about the resilience and reliability of technology solutions, prompting organizations to reconsider their dependency on single providers for crucial security functions. The incident also underscored the importance of having robust incident response and communication strategies in place for both providers and clients.

At Hybridge, we partner with our clients to have the right IT policies in place and up to date. While we cannot prevent outages like the one CrowdStrike caused, having a robust Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Policy and an Incident Response Plan in place will give you the tools and roadmap to follow in case of a disaster.

If you don’t have or need to update your IT policies, reach out to us at support at hybridge.com.
